These works begin with the figure—posture, gesture, expression, light, and the space surrounding it. I am less interested in likeness alone than in what can exist beyond it: a sense of stillness, vulnerability, tension, thought, or presence.

Some works remain closely observed; others introduce systems, chance, or unexpected associations. In each, the figure becomes a way of considering what a portrait can hold beyond physical resemblance.
