I have always been interested in the process of making—the physical relationship with materials and the way they can shape the direction of the work. My early training in sculpture began in Portugal through apprenticeships in stone carving and bronze casting. Artists such as Rodin, Brancusi, Giacometti, and Henry Moore were important early influences.
