Rahn learned her craft from artisans in the stone quarries and bronze foundries of Lisbon, developing a deep sensitivity to raw material and process. Her early sculptures — minimalist renderings of the female form — were cast in traditional sand and lost wax methods, shaped by the influences of Rodin, Henry Moore, and Alberto Giacometti.
